The Twin Otter is equipped with the Aura 8 Advanced Flight Control System, which is today’s most sophisticated stabilization system, delivering an unmatched flying experience. Featuring Flex’s latest Aura firmware, the Twin Otter comes with differential thrust to offer crazy yaw authority and unleash aerobatics never seen before with a twin propped airplane. Additionaly, the motor gain is applied to the motors, enabling the pilot to unleash the smooth, predictable, and precise flight of the Twin Otter without any interference to pilot inputs. The Twin Otter’s stock Aura 8 program also features built in flap programming as well as Live-Wing and Crow! Thanks to the preconfigured Aura 8 program, the Twin Otter only requires an 8-channel transmitter. The Aura 8 system works with any known transmitter and receiver, requiring only a quick connection to your receiver to get you flying. Out of the box, the Aura is pre-programmed with three Flight Modes (Low Rate, Gyro Off – Low Rate, Gyro On – High Rate, Live-Wing, Gyro On), giving you the option to choose how you want to fly.
A single 6s 5200mAh – 6200mAh LiPo battery sits on a removable battery tray, powering the counter-rotating Potenza 40 550KV motors swinging 14×6 propellers and are coupled with genuine 60-amp HobbyWing ESC’s to create a simple and efficent power-system. Despite the massive size of the airframe, with a 90″ wingspan, the Twin Otter 80E assembles and disassembles quickly and easily with removable wings and stabs, breaking down into a much smaller and transportable package. Additionally, the optional wing bags allow you to protect the wings while leaving the props and spinners attached, further enhancing the ease of assembly and disassembly, while protecting from “hangar rash”. The Twin Otter features a hollow internal structure and incorporates plywood and carbon fiber in key locations. The innovative plywood sub-structures secure BOTH power systems to the wing tube, allowing both motors to operate smoothly even at high power and allows the airframe to remain rigid during tumbling maneuvers. Beacuase the Otter uses EPO foam it remains tough and repairable.
The Twin Otter 80E also accepts optional lighted floats without compromising its flight capability, adding even more versatility. The Night Version of the Twin Otter includes internally mounted and pre-installed LEDs in the fuselage, wings, and tail, creating a stunning illuminated effect from the inside while the fin-mounted spotlights illuminate the Twin Otter’s tail from the exterior, allowing the airplane to be flown at dusk, dawn, and even during the darkest hours of the night.

So happy to see this. Packaged well. Fit and finish is nice. 1 hour assembly , not even close. ( only complaint ) maiden was incredible. Couple clicks and a quick trim and she is ready to fly. Programming is spot on. Set mine up with crow. Very wide flight envelope. Great for touch and go’s. I’m a sport flyer but this plane made me feel comfortable quick. Was doing some pinwheels and flat spins on the 2nd battery. Used a 6000mah 120c battery with 5 minutes of flight lands showing 60+% left. Should be able to get 61/2 minutes with some to spare. I want to thank ya’ll for a large sport plane. This is my 4th plane from Flexinnovations . Hope to see more. Keep up the good work!

WOW!!!
This is one BADASS airplane! Flex, you guys hit it out of the park on this one. I thought my Flex Cessna was beyond belief, but the Twin Otter goes WAY beyond that. Assembly was straight forward and quick. Construction is top-notch, as is the norm for Flex! I did the maiden flight (plus 3 flights) yesterday and can’t get over how AWESOME this thing is. With this plane, even “fair” pilots can look like they are great 3D pilots! The first two flights were with 6S5200 batteries and the third and fourth flights with 6S10000 batteries. No noticeable difference in flight characteristics with the slightly heavier batteries. The differential thrust is quite aggressive making flat spins and inverted flat spins a snap. When coming out of a flat spin, the gyro slams the rudder over to the opposite side AND blasts the other motor wide open for a moment instantly stopping the flat spin.
This is my 4th Flex plane (FV-31, QQ300, Cessna 170 and now the Twin Otter). IT WON”T BE MY LAST!!! Thanks, Flex, for a FANTASTIC airplane!

The long wait since pre-order was so worth it! This Twin Otter has a huge flight range. Fly it slow and easy, land at a walking pace. Or take it up and bang the sticks to ring it out. If you like the RV-8 60E, you will feel right at home with the big Twotter. This big girl is going to rack up the flight hours quick for me. Make room in your hangar and get one ordered now!

This is an update to the review I posted on October 29.
I am still TOTALLY in love with this plane.
I have two other Otters, the UMX Twin Otter, 19″ span and the Eflite Twin Otter, 48″ span, and both have 3 blade props AS DID the full-scale Twin Otter. While this plane flies GREAT with the 14×6 two blade props, I wanted to see how it would fly (and look) with 3 blade props. I couldn’t find 13×6 three blade props for electric motors in both directions and conventional props have a hub that is too thick. I contacted Master Airscrew and their very helpful tech, Lazar recommended MAS’s 3MR series 13×6.5 props. While these were specifically designed for multi-rotor use, he said they would be great on a CTOL aircraft as well. I flew the Twin Otter with these MAS props several flights yesterday and there is NO degradation in the performance. Also, these props look a little “different”, but I kinda like the look and I love having 3 blade props for the appearance. I ordered a replacement set of spinners (didn’t want to modify the originals just in case I decide to go back to the factory 2 blade props) and cut them off enough to clear the props. Looks and works great.
In addition to HIGHLY recommending this FANTASTIC Twin Otter airplane, optionally installing these MAS 3 blade 3MR series props is a GREAT choice.

I generally don’t do reviews but felt that I needed to for the Twin Otter. I have the Flex Mamba 60, Cap232, Cypher, Mamba 10 6S version and the Flexjet for the Flex planes. I have to say that the Twin Otter is my favorite plane even over my Extreme Flight planes due to it’s flexibility and fun factor. Mild to wild in one plane. Guys watching me fly it have been really impressed but the other day I had a really great 3D pilot give it a workout. His comments were: incredible, super locked in and a plane like that shouldn’t be able to do what he was doing with it. He plans on ordering the night version along with an airline pilot that was watching and is a good RC pilot. I will be letting a few other none 3D guys fly it to see how easy it flies and have no doubts that there will be others wanting one. Incredible plane!!!
