Everyone wants more power and more flight time for their 10-class aircraft, but performance enhancements have always been limited by the power system and the 3S (11.1V) Li-Po’s they typically use. Going back to the drawing board, the Flex Innovations Team started over with a new idea: to use a totally redesigned power system, with a small, lightweight and inexpensive 6S (22.2V) Li-Po to totally revolutionize the performance of 10-class aircraft. What does this mean for you? No more dreaming, you really do get it all! More Power. More Flight Time. And most importantly; More Fun!

Revolutionizing flying wing performance, the Piraña is an extraordinary aircraft that stands above the crowd! The Piraña not only shares some key aesthetics with LMP cars racing at Le Mans, it mirrors their performance too! The Piraña has big power and high-speed capabilities, while also maintaining extraordinary handling thanks to designer and F3A and 3D World Champion, Quique Somenzini. From the craziest of aerobatic maneuvers, to high speed and slow-speed flight, the Piraña bundles an incredibly wide flight envelope with performance and power in a convenient package. Whether you’re flying the Piraña under your FPV goggles, or by traditional means, it will be sure to put a smile on your face every time you fly it!

GREAT FEATURES INCLUDED!

  • Wide flight envelope, from slow speed, to high speed and crazy aerobatic maneuvers, the Piraña can do it all!

I don’t know why I’m the first to write a review since this thing is awesome and the auto take off is the best feature in an electric plane thus far… I have not yet tried the rudder brake but that is next on my list…I love it in every way. Easy to see my orange one and it does move along very nice. Flex hit the mark on this one… I sold my v900 after flying this one. Not as fast, but more of a pleasure to fly and launch………launch assist beats out safe as3x in every way.

  2. Atindra Chaturvedi (verified owner)

I don’t know why I am only the second one to review this cool flyer. Launch assist is great — works 100%. Plane is plenty fast for me and the orange works well under our cloudy skies. Using the Spektrum Rx and Potenza batteries. Get one of these !! I may have some video shortly of a launch at my field shortly.

Don’t know why I’m only the 3rd reviewer 🙂 Very fun plane. Follow the instructions closely. There is a learning curve with the Aura but, if I can handle it, virtually anyone can. I use a Spektrum DX8G2 TX and the Flex DSMX Diversity RX. Potenza 1500mHa 6s cells. Launch Assist and Air-Brakes work exceptionally well. And, that’s good cuz I need both. Customer Service is top notch imo. All that said I might not recommend the Pirana to a new pilot. It gets small and it gets small fast. The FT Aura 5 Lite flight control board is by far the best in its class. Rock solid. You need a little patience. Study the videos and documents and you’ll be satisfied. You should fly one too.

I don’t know why I am only the 4th 🙂 Overall its a great little plane! Plug and play. The “launch assist” is amazing and rips across the sky. Full rates and its a blur and will do crazy spins and flips. Aura 5 is quite the little unit and I used the PC to review the settings. Air brakes, super cool. Overall love it! So why 4 stars? I think the lights on the bottom would be better pointed down vs up. Also clear could have been used around the LEDs so they were brighter at night. But its easy to add more LEDs. The Aura buttons (trim and bind) are located in a weird spot, you have to have tiny baby fingers if you are to press them especially at the same time. But the REAL 4 starts is the canopy. Its hinged from the back and I lost mine (at night flying) on the 5th flight doing crazy high speed 3D. Why they decided to open like a hood of a car is beyond me. ADD A PIN OR ANOTHER WAY TO HOLD THE CANOPY DOWN IN THE FRONT.

I dumb thumbed the initial launch and damaged the fuselage beyond repair. I ordered a replacement part from the web site, which said they were “in stock”. When I opened the box, no fuselage was in it. They have no idea when replacement parts will be available.
I cannot recommend any airplane that is not supported with parts. Especially frustrating that they had them listed in stock when they weren’t.

    • Customer Support

      Hi John,

Thanks for your feedback! While we do try very hard to keep our website up to date, there can occasionally be errors. For your order, we shipped all items on the order except the fuselage since it was out of stock and backordered. We do our best to keep replacement parts in stock, but with today’s challenges in the supply chain, it can be quite hard to keep inventory in stock at all times. We did receive a new shipment of parts last week and Piraña fuselages were part of that shipment, so your fuselage should have been delivered to you, or be on its way to you.

      Thanks!

I purchased the Pirana locally and found the right wing half does not have the hole for the longer wing tube. The plane seems to be pretty good quality and easy to assemble, otherwise, but now I now have to wait…

  7. Chris Kaiser

I purchased a second Pirana since my first one had no wing tube hole in the right wing. I setup the second one and it was ready to fly until I plugged in a battery and nothing worked. I tested the ESC and servos with another plane and they do not work. My brand new Futaba receiver also now does not work. I must not be meant to own Flex planes.

  8. evanoski

I love this plane. I’m used to flying the Funjet and the V900, but when I started flying the Pirana, I hardly ever fly the others. The V900 is faster but not by much. It is not as much fun to fly. Launching the V900 is rough, even in Safe Mode. The Pirana’s launch assist is amazing. Works everytime. No stressful launches anymore. Love the air brakes, they work great. Super fun to fly. Thinking about buying another on in case they ever discontinue the Pirana.

I bought the yellow Priana because a guy at the field had the orange one. It’s pretty fast so I’m not sure about it being a FPV plane TBH. It flies well slow from what I can tell.
    Assembly was fairly straight forward:
    Pros:
    Yellow cover is high vis
    Plenty of ventilation
    fast assembly
    Cons:
Quite a bit of excess brown glue on the control horns for the elevons and other places where plastic pieces meet foam
Wing fit was not square on the left wing. I have to essentially hold the pieces together under stress to get the screw in.
Like every other manufacturer, they are still using phillips head screws instead on hex.
The rudders surfaces touch the fuselage when mounted. I did not overtighten.
While I appreciate when manufacturers put the decals on. The decals were over the channel where the rudder servos and satellite receiver go. Perhaps they could leave the backing on just short of the channels?

The Pirana is one of my go-to airplanes. Flies in any winds. Best to set it up using mechanical trimming rather than quick trim…..otherwise the launch assist gets confused. Absolutely a great flyer and the rudder brake is so much fun to use.

  11. brenku (verified owner)

Awesome plane. Took a couple weeks to figure out a few things to get working well (binding, LED lights, correct Rx, aura lite setup) but once it’s setup it’s super easy to fly with Aura. The Flight Assist works awesome and I could not believe the gyro’s in action. This is prob my 26th RC plane and I’ve never flown with a flight controller/gyro setup. It’s pretty wild how you can still keep an edge flying hard but it helps settle when you want to just cruise. Tech Support very solid and responsive which is one of the best parts. Nice job everyone at Flex.

  12. Mark Shilling

Great flying plane. Took a little while to get it set up the way I wanted, but now it’s one of my favorite planes to take out to the flying field.
As a result of me allowing a couple of folks to fly mine there are now 5 more on order!! Going to sound like a heard of angry hornets with all of them in the air at one time.
