    Still getting it set up. The craftsmanship is great. Has a lot of features that remind me of the Carbon Z Cub G2.

    One note for you Graupner folks. I was having trouble getting the Aura 8 to listen to my Graupner GR12L. The airplane manual states to set protocol to “SUMD of 8”. However, that doesn’t work, at least for the GR12L. I searched Flex’s Wiki and it states to set protocol to “SUMD of 16”. Did that and all is well!!!

    I did not buy the floats, but I did get the night version. I hooked up the lights via channel 8 on the Aura. Had to go into config and tweak channel 8 a little. Now I can readily switch lights on/off from my xmitter. Also, I am considering adding a 30vdc to 12vdc “buck” reducer so I can run the lights off the main pack rather than carrying a 3 cell pack just for the lights. I’ll update on how that goes as well.

    Without having a flight in yet, I am loving this plane. I’ll update in a few days after the maiden flight, but from my first impressions, I doubt there will be much negative to say!

    Update to my review on November 20, 2022.

    I am still completely happy with this fantastic airplane! I have 6 or 7 flights on it, and it is my new “favorite” plane!

    I do, however, have a couple more comments, specifically for the night version. The assembly instructions tell you to connect the wing forward light connector to the light harness in the battery compartment. Then the aft wing light connector connects to that side’s fuselage light connector. Basically, light power is supposed to enter the forward wing connector, pass through the wing to the fuselage lights. Problem is, at least on mine, there is no continuity between the wing forward and aft light connectors thus no power was going to the fuselage lights AND the aft lights in the wing were not getting power as well. Simple fix was to connect both wing connectors and the fuselage connectors to the light harness. Had to do a little soldering, but nothing extreme.

    For my initial flight (and ever since), I switched the Aura to the “Advanced” program (easily done as directed in the manual). It flies GREAT. It will do unlimited vertical. While I am not capable of really putting it through serious 3D, I’m sure it will do everything advertised.

    Flight time, at high mostly high power, is about 4 minutes on a 6S5200. Also, the “Buck” voltage reducer I was considering in my previous review works great. It powers the lights from the main pack without cell imbalance.

    I went back and purchased floats as well. Good quality product. However, it has been quite dry in the Houston area and our field’s pond is extremely low, so I have not flown it from the water yet……..

    I still LOVE this airplane, however I did recently have an issue. I was hammering it fairly hard during a flight. When I was on final for landing, I saw the right-side wing strut hanging straight down from the wing. Fortunately, the strut, nor the wing had any damage when it dragged on the runway during landing. Upon inspection, the right-side fuselage strut mount had broken off. The mount is part of the molded fuselage underbelly. To replace would require landing gear removal, peeling the piece off and gluing a replacement back in place IF this piece is available (which I have not checked). I decided to 3D print a piece instead. I removed (broke off) the left-side strut mount to match the right-side that broke during flight. Took a piece of 0.125″ brass tubing in a drill and drilled through the fuselage to make a “C” shaped hole through the foam. Using black, carbon fiber filled PLA, I printed a “C” shaped piece that I then pushed through the fuselage (with a little medium foam CA on it) The ends of this piece now accept the inboard ends of the struts. Far stronger than the original mounts. Back to tearing up the sky without any worry of a repeat failure!
